Cheap and effective planting solution ( as soon as spring gets here)
Take a bag of good quality potting soil, I used 1cf Miracle Gro Moisture Control, and cut open the top as neatly as you can. Use some wire, a plastic ring or anything you can think of to hold open the top of the bag so that the hole is as big as possible. Sprinkle the top of the exposed soil with your favorite carrot seed.
Use your fingers or a small hand shovel to punch 4-6 holes along the sides of the bag and insert (cram) a strawberry plant into each opening. Push it far back in. Water from the top every few days with a gentle watering can. You can rotate the bag around every few days as well to share the sun with all the strawberry plants.
I had 16" carrots this year and I started late. I'm still pulling them out every day. I wash them off and eat them walking through the yard. The strawberries are still bearing even in November. They actually grew out of the bag and down to the ground. I had to stop rotating the bag once that happened so consider that.
Next year, I'm doing 12-14 bags. Gonna try potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, and tobacco in bags. I'll use 2cf bags for the tomaters and tobacco I think.

Bad Laydowns, Bad Bluffs and the 8 5 offsuit
Our Home Game Page is Here We play a No-Limit Texas Holdem tournament every Friday night. 10 - 18 people on average. $20 buy in with unlimited rebuys for the first hour. This is the blind structure.
On my drive to the game, a friend called me and told me to play tight. I didn't listen.
You know how I love to play the first hand of the night don't you ? I don't even remember any of the hands in the first 50 minutes but they were not great. I lost them all. I'm down to 260 chips already and the blinds are still a measley 10 - 20. It's 8:26pm, only 4 minutes from the end of the rebuy period and I get dealt Daniels favorite hand (10 7) in middle position. Jimbo and Bosey are in the hand with me in an unraised pot.
FLOP !!!! 7s 8c 9s giving me bottom pair with and open ended straight.
Jimbo sheepishly bets $60. The flop is perfect for me and I put it all in the middle. Besides, the rebuy period is over in 3 minutes and I'm not sitting around waiting to drive my dad, who will still be playing, home in 5 hours. I beg Bosey to call me so I can triple up and not have to rebuy. He says he likes me so he is gonna do me the favor. (I would return that favor laster in the night BIGTIME)
TURN !!!! 9c Great card for me since I now have an open ended straight flush draw.
Jimbo and Bosey both check.
RIVER !!!! Qc I lock up the flush and miss my straight flush by one card. Thanks Daniel !
Bosey shows ACH (he had a stashed) and jumbo shows some horrible hand I don't remember.
I triple up and I'm back in the game with almost $1000 in chips. But not for long.
The very next hand (THE 8 5 offsuit)
Wesley Ross, who is out of this hand on my immediate right, grabs my cards from the table and lifts the edges up to take a look. As he lifts them, I am just a little excited to see that I've got a pair of eights. I make a move towards my chips and toss in the $20 to call the BP. Uncle Bill on my left decides to also just flat call from the button. The small blind folds and Bosey goes all in from the Big Blind. Everyone folds around to me and I am in a tought spot. I just got back in the game again after all my bad plays and I should be happy enough to fold and wait it out, but I like my pair against what I figure is just two overcards at best so I call. And then Uncle Bill decides to call as well. Damn you Bill !
FLOP !!!! J 6 6. A good flop for me but I check, hoping to induce Bill to bet so can come over the top of him. And boy does he ever bet. " ALL IN " spouts the fisherman. I called immediately as watched Bill turn over his own pair of eights. WOW ! I chuckle and slam my cards down beside his and say "I've got the same thing !!" It is at this moment that the horror overtakes me as I realize that I really have 8 5 offsuit, not the pair of eights. I'm drawing dead to running fives which, of course, do not materialize. I'm out of the tourney.
Thanks Wesley. Now get off my cards please.
______________________________
REBUY !!! My first one ever.
______________________________
With a fresh new stack of chips I decide to play it a little closer to the vest for awhile. A good 45 minutes of folding and lots of really small pots later, I'm in the cutoff position and I pull one of my favorite tricks. I pretend to look down at my cards from behind my glasses and I watch the other players watching me instead. The blind structure are now 20-40. Bill calls from the Small Blind and Bosey checks the BB.
FLOP !!!! J 10 10 Bill checks. Bosey checks. I bet out $100.
Bill calls. Bosey folds.
TURN !!!! 7s
Bill says, "Fuck it, I'm all in"! Now it's time to look at my cards........AJ. Not bad at all. But Bill is a good player and he has a tendency to push with his good hands in hope of winning a big pot. I'm really torn. My gut tells me to call. Then discussion starts about the SB, and how Bill could possibly having anything like 10 3 in an unraised pot such as this. Damn it Bill. You seemed to be my Nemesis already at this point. So I folded it face up on the table for all to see. A massive laydown. Then Bill flips over QJ to put me on tilt. Great.

9:30pm Major Suckout by Jimbo. With four cards on the board 10 J 5 7 and only small betting leading up to it, Jimbo unexpectedly announces "All In" with a motion of his hand. "No Show" Brian is the only other person in the hand but he seems just as thrown off by my dad's bet as the rest of us. Everyone is even more surprised when he calls.
He calls with "The Brunson". He has the middle pair of tens with a 2 kicker to go with it. When Jimbo drops the AQd on the felt and he knows he's in trouble with nothing but ace high and one card to come.
5-1 against. What else is the river but a miracle lady. He hit his 6 outer and the sucking sound is heard for miles.
____________________________________
9:37pm I bluff off all my chips to Bill. He has my ass in a sling tonight and there's no escape. I had Motown (J5) and the flop had paired my 5. I checked it and Bill did too. The turn was a brick and we both checked again. The River is a Q and Bill bets $100. I move all in for $700 more and he calls with AQ.I had let him his for free. Lesson re-re-learned. C-Ya !
So I quit paying attention to the game for a long while and commence to cracking a beer.
9:59pm Bring on the losers game !!! I love the losers game. I'd love to play it first and then play the big game. I got an early chip lead with some aggressive play and I knocked out Sammy, Ronnie, and Jimbo. I was a one man wrecking crew. It got down to me and TJ for all the marbles and I have a 4-1 chiplead. Here's the final hand.......
I'm holding 6 3 offsuit on the button and I limp in the pot. TJ checks.
FLOP !!!! K 3 10 giving me a pair of threes. TJ checks and I do too.
TURN !!!! it's a 6. Now I have two pair. I pause and fiddle my chips. Then I ask TJ what the minimum raise is. He says its $40 and that's what I bet. Then he decides to raise me just another $40. I move all in and pray for a call. He calls quick and shows AK. The river is a brick and I pocket the dough. This puts me up $20 after dropping $40 on the main game.

Back to the main game. 12:58am Saturday I repay Bosey's favor from earlier when hea called me upon request. He's heads up with FNG Tony and they have been at it for an hour. I wasn't watching the hand at the beginning but I heard Tony move all in and Bosey call so I sped over to see the conclusion I thought. Tony only had pair of Tens and Bosey had KQ for an open ended straight draw. Well, Bosey doesn't catch his straight or even a pair and he stands up to shake Tony's hand. I look closely at the board and I see a ton of red cards so I look a little closer. Well Well. Bosey had caught a runner runner flush and nobody had seen it. I pulled the muck apart and reconstructed the hands. Everyone was stunned and Bosey was delighted. Tony was visibly upset but announced that he didn't want to win "that way". they would play for another 45 minutes after that.
Final Hand 1:26am Saturday morning. A flop of Rag Rag Rag. With just ace high, Bosey moves in and Tony Calls with KJ. The river brings a Jack and Tony wins anyway.
Congrats Tony. See you all on Saturday.

Chips and Chair ( Jimbo Cleans up again )
Our Home Game Page is Here We play a No-Limit Texas Holdem tournament every Friday night. 10 - 18 people on average. $20 buy in.
We had a big turnout tonight, the biggest in a few months. 17 players tested fury of the poker Gods. We had three new players thrown into the mix. Carl (my dads buddy), Mike (who works for me) and "No Show" Brian (we recently met at our Pool). I drew my favorite table again and I'm feeling good so let's get the cards in the air.
The action started off slowly for some reason. Nobody played a monster pot for the first hour it seemed. The only thing I remember was knocking Carl out with TPTK and watching him rebuy. I did take some notes when BJ was all in however. In middle position BJ pushed in his last 340 remarking "I must be out of practice I guess". Well, that's what happens when you miss out on a month of games. I reraised him to shut everyone else out and my pocket Jacks send BJ to the rail.
The next hand I make a 4xBB raise from the button with a suited 9 10. Toby calls out of the small blind and Brian folds his Big Blind. On the short stack again, Carl pushes all in for his last 400 or so. To his left, Bosey , who had limped, makes a raise of $100 to create a sidepot. I have no idea why. I call the $100 and so does Toby.
FLOP !!! 9 Q 5 giving me a pair of nines. Toby checks, Bosey Checks. I bet $200 into the side pot, Toby folds and Bosey calls.
TURN !!! 6 I bet $200 more and Bosey calls again.
RIVER !!! 8 Bosey checks to me and with only a pair of nines I decide to check as well.
Carl shows A7 suited and Bosey has AJ off. I take down a monster pot of over $1500 with nines.
Well, it's 10:03 PM and the big stack at the table is "No Show" Brian who has yet to show his cards even once. Everyone folds when he makes a big bet and he has been raking it in for 2 hours.
It's at this time the "No Show" nickname was applied. The next hand he makes a raise and gets a few callers. Everyone folds out when he bets at the flop. The whole table chastises him into showing his mucked cards and he digs them out to show us AK suited. Nice.
Chip Count !!!
10:17pm
Me - 3100
TJ - 1000
Jimbo- 1990
Brian- 2200
various short stacks.

Final Table looks like this.......
ME
<----- to my left
Wesley
Brian
Jimbo
Jack
Bill
TJ
FNG Tony
blinds 100-200
________________________________________
The payouts are set at $200 $100 and $40. We had one rebuy.
Somehow, my dad (Jimbo) has managed to stick around after having dropped down to $190 in chips on not one, but two occasions leading up til now. He got into a 4 way pot and quadrupled up to become a force at the table. Uh Oh. Chips and a Chair I guess.
I was just about as card dead as you can hope for at the final table. I never had a pair for the first half hour of play and when I saw a suited KQ it looked like Aces. I had been knocked down to 2000 chips by one suckout and a lost coinflip. On my right,TJ a.k.a Food Lion makes a small raise for $200 and I reraise $600 more. TJ ponders briefly before pushing all in. TJ shows me a A4 offsuit. I flop my Queen then TJ turns an Ace to double through me.
One rotation later the blinds are hitting me and I only have $490 left. I wait as long as I can and then find AK suited in the Big Blind. I am tickled to get my chips in the pot with such a hand and even more ticlked when TJ calls from the button with 10 7 of spades. My excitement is soon squashed by a 10 on the turn and I'm gonzo. I have a few chioce words for TJ as I stand up and head to the fridge for a cold one.

HAnd of the Week
From the Small Blind, in an uncontested pot, Brian raises $400 into Jimbos Big Blind with a pair ofpocket rockets. Not knowing this of course, Jimbo likes his hand enough to call the modest bet while exclaming "I'll call it, but a 10 never hits when I need it".
FLOP !!! 10 8 5
Brian make a pot sized bet after some careful consideration of Jimbos comment about the ten. At this point I am personally putting the old man on a set of tens and I'm pretty sure that "No Show" Brian has a big hand as well.
Peering back at his cards, Jimbo announces that he is in fact all in for about $3000 more . Brian goes into the tank for nearly two minutes and somewhat sheepishly calls while simultaniously slamming down his aces. Jimbo takes his time turning over a 10 8 offsuit for two pair. Brian does not improve and he is eliminated finally showing down a hand. Too bad. That sucks. Nice job old man.
00000000000000000000000000000000000000
Moving right along. Blind are $200 - $400 still. It's heads up with Jimbo and Food Lion. I decide to sit down with my beer and deal for them. It takes only about 6-7 hands before TJ raises $1000 with J 10 suited and Jimbo comes over the top with A 8 for all his chips. TJ calls kinda quick and they turn them over.
Jimbo make Trip 8s and TJ comes away with nothing but a busted straight and 2nd place money. That's it. Jimbo wins again. Congrats.
I taught him too much I think.
DISCLAIMER !!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE READ !!!!!!!!!!
editors note - Jimbo never took a single chip off of me once the whole night.
WMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMWMW
It's 1am and 7 of us pitch in $10 and decide to play our first TURBO tourney. Each man got $1000 in chips and the blinds would be set at an astonishing $100 and $200. At this rate you could barely make three rounds before getting blinded off. Action is sure to come.
The draw for the dealer puts me UTG the first hand and Jimmy is nice enough to deal me AQ of hearts. I say fuk it and go all in thinking this will be the best hand I'll see in the whole tourney most likely. JImbo folds. Bill goes all in too with A6s. Jimmy folds on the button with (a7o no less) Ronnie calls fromt he SB with KQo. Then Michael the BB goes all in and shows his own suited AQc.
Jimmy does a "5 card turbo all at once flop" since everyone is all in. Jimy slams down the stack of cards and slowly separates them. Ronnie yelps when he spots his King !!! "Whoo Hoo" !
Oops ! My eyes however are focused on the 3 hearts emerging slowly from the pile. Heart Flush for your hero! I have the mortal nuts. Amazing. Poor Michael with his own AQ suited is dejected but composed. Ronnie sits stunned, still refusing to admit there are three hearts on the board.
The action heats up fast and we are down to heads up. Myself and Jimbo are about to butt heads once again. Jimbo is dealing and limps. I push in with a suited A8 and he calls with K 9. The ace high wins the hand and I go from down $20 on the night to up $40. That's better.
PS> sorry this took forever to get up this week. It's 101 degrees here and my office is in the front of the house and it stays kinda warm. I hope you buy that excuse.
Look for a Bad Beat and a Big Hand to be posted tomorrow.

So Jason Headley calls me up .....
"What's goin on ?"
Or something like that I think. And I am thinking in the back of my mind ( ****who the hell is this ?**** ). Then he tells me ....."It's Jason Headley".
Well, he and I went to the same rural ass rural high school. Jason had been online viewing some pics on my homepage and stopped to give me a ring (a truly novel idea these days) and we caught up on old times. Jason moved from the secluded backwoods of WV all the way to the land of earthquakes and Rice-A-Roni. Quite an adjustment. Diehard Packer fan turned turned musician turned author, he's gotten the farthest from our hometown than anyone I know. So I'm inclined to hear what he has to say and you should be too. "Hey Jason.....How'd you get my number ?"
Not convinced ? Get inside Jasons head first and see for yourself.
Jason Published his first novel last year and I thought I'd pimp it. It's entirely-loosely based on the people and happenings in our hometown and the surrounding cities and more than one of my family members. I just wanted to give him the exposure to my dozens of readers and loyal ignorers. If you read that Jason, I'm still waiting on that signed copy.
Buy one if you got some extra dough a few hours to spend.
Then read about Jasons decision to stop washing his hair.
I adopted the philosophy 6 mths mths ago on a slightly less stringent regimin and I'm delighted.

Thursday Night's alright for Second.........
My Homegame Page is Here
Crap. Second again. I love spoiling the surprise when I don't win. Get your own damn Blog I say : )
We played on Thursday since Ronnie would be out of town on Friday and most of us can't function if we miss poker night. Well, let's just say the hardcore users were there. 9 of us. Top prize only being paid tonight. $180. (If nobody buys back in that is)
I'm lucky enough to draw a number to get me sat at my favorite of the two tables.
Blinds $10 and $20 qith a starting stack of $1000 each.
The first hand of the night brings fireworks as usual. I'm fortunate enough to have Johnny "Buzz" draw high card and put me one off the button and soon I am gazing down at a pair of treys. Not a bad way to start off. Everyone limps in and when it comes to me I do the same, praying for a trey and an ace on the flop to bust someone with. My enthusiasm is quickly entinguished when Johnny makes it 200 to go from the button. No doubt Johnny has absorbed some of the knowlegde from TJ's book which I have so graciously let him borrow becasue his old play would have been to limp in as well and get a bad beat handed to him. Tonight he was playing agressive and nobody knew what to think. "Action" Tommy lived up to his name and made the lone call. I don't remember much more of the hand except that Johnny got half Tommys chips on the first hand when he flipped over two black aces he had dealt top himself. Way to go Johnny. Tommy would rebuy 30 minutes later and fatten the prize pool to $200.
8:45pm About an 1 1/2 hours into the game I get into a pot with Toby and he slowplays a pair of aces on my as I had hit a pair of Kings on the flop. $600 pot to Toby. It wasn't too long before a series of bad calls and unfortunate turns that I had dwindled down to $350 in chips. Time to make a move with the blinds approaching $40 and $80. I came up against Toby again about 20 minutes later and I reraised him and his now giant stack ( he had built a retaining wall of $200 red chip stacks to guard his Easter Island of dotted $200 stacks of blue ) with my favorit hand of late, J10 suited. The flop hit me just right with a ravishing J 8 2 rainbow with one diamond. I pushed all in and Toby was the only caller in a pot now containing nearly $1000. Toby had called with K9 for second pair. The turn and river were blanks and I had quadrupled up.
I don't remember how Jimmy had busted out, but when I turned around once time I just saw he had flown the coop. I always like seeing Lucky Ass Jimmy out of the game.
I coasted into the final table and I liked my position. The final table looked like this.
Me
to the left.....
Johnny "Buzz"
Jimbo
Bosey
Sammy
Toby
Ronnie
Tommy
The first hand of the Final table always seems to hold tons of self-inflicted drama and tonight was no exception. Blinds are now at $40 and $80. I am in the BB thanks to Ronnie drawing a Queen to grab the button and I squeeze out QJ offsuit. Johnny had limped in UTG and so had 5 others right in line. I saw an excellent chance to steal a ton of chips so I pushed all in for $1200. Johnny immediately called and went all in over the top of me and shut the rest of the players out. When he dropped down AJd I was mortified. I was dominated, unsuited better than a 3-1 underdog. Not to mention that Johnny had me covered by a mile. I cursed and spouted off the odds to Johnny whop seemed quite pleased with himself. When the flop brought me a Divine Lady I quicky sprang into the lead and held on to double up. Yummy.
The second hand of the final table was another dandy. I held Q9 offsuit in the Small Blind and I limp in with about 4 others. The BB is Jimbo, who checks (holding K4h).
FLOPPY K 9 6 rainbow. Everyone checks around.
TURN Qd putting two diamonds on the boar, and me two pair.
I am first to act and I bet out $200 into a pot of over $600. Jimbo raises $300 and I flat call after a brief and staged moment of thought.
RIVER 3d and I love my hand, even with a flush draw on the board.
Since I am trapping at this point, I check it and leave the betting to dear old dad who promptly peels off $400 and stamps it down muttering "raise". Playing it safe I decide to just call instead of reraising. I ask "What ya got" and Jimbo sheepishly announces "Kings". He says "You ?" ........."Two pair", I say confidently.
"Nice Hand". "Thanks Dad".
Yada Yada Yada. I knock out a few guys and it's down to Myself, Ronnie and Jimbo.
I take out Jimbo on a hand I don't recall and creep into the chip lead. Ronnie and I play back at each other for 30 minutes or so, exchanging the lead three times before he took me out by catching trips on the turn and river after I had flopped top pair and bet out. Ronnie had called me with two overs and he caught one of them on the turn. My tourney was over when I foolishly pushed all in with my pair of sevens on that turn and Ronnie had his first win in months secured. Congrats to Ronnie. I guess it's good business to have the house win one every so often.
Video Snipet.................
Any Idea who it on ? I've got a pretty good idea. ( expilcit )
This weeks we are back to Friday night. I hope the River is Kind. - Cincy Sean
